Looks like our unseasonably warm weather will be going away soon, so I took another trip yesterday to a section of the river I had fished once before. I had caught some nice rainbows in this area and figured it would be worth a shot before the cold front hit. I started my short hike to the trail down around 1pm as it had warmed up to a balmy 50 degrees. I could see all the areas I wanted to fish from the top of the canyon and was pleasantly surprised that I would have the place to myself. The first run, produced a couple nice browns. I moved further down stream to the pool that had held the bows my previous trip. I picked up a small one, then a couple casts later hooked into a very nice one that proceeded to swim right towards me, come out of the water right in front of me and spit the hook. I know fish that get off always seem bigger than they probably are, but damn, I think that would have been the biggest I have ever got out of this area. Not to be discouraged, fished a while longer until the clouds rolled in and the wind picked up. Ended up with six hookups, four to the net. Climbed back up the hill and was home around 3pm, time for a well deserved beer.
Not a fisherman in sight!

A large rainbow lives here.

Some nice browns.

It’s not an easy hike, but worth the effort.

Some beaver activity.
