Original Post:
Currently sitting in a bar (still sober’ish) drying out after a few hours on the Clackamas this afternoon. Hooked a beautiful winter steelhead on a bunny leach from a Westfly fly swap, which must’ve happened 10+ years ago. I’ve had this fly rolling around in a fly box (ziploc bag) for years. And today felt like the day to put her to work.

So, that’s a long winded way of saying I’d like to celebrate this new forum and this great day with a fly swap. I’ll host.

Here are some guidelines:
- flies due by the first week of March (2022…duh)
- category neutral; hairwings, tube flies, intruders, leeches, anything goes
- respond publicly with your interest in the swap along with the fly you want to tie
- when they’re ready just PM me for an address to mail
- return address (Im not losing any sleep over postage but if you’d like to include stamps that would be great)
- I’ll cap this around 8 people knowing I don’t want to tie more than that, plus some people will flake out as usual

Questions: ask away. Will respond when drunk (see earlier comments referencing bar and celebration)

I’m in. Probably some form of ho bo for me.

Boom! Phil…good to see your name again. We’ve fished together in the past from our Westfly days. Been a really long time…I’ve lost all your contact info unfortunately.

Alright…this might be a record for smallest fly swap ever.

But PhilR and I are confirmed. Worst case we’ll just tie up a few different patterns, catch large fresh fish, post those fish with our flies in their mouths, and make everyone jealous they they didn’t enter. 😵

Books are still open though. Plenty of time to sign up.

(Edit: just noticed Long Rod responded ‘interested’ which I’ll interpret as officially signed up! Welcome to the team!!)

I'll give it a shot.. I've never done a swap before. I will have to look at what materials I got when I get home, and think about a fly...

Yeah! Woo!

Ok, I've settled on the Beauly Snow Fly, probably modified a bit. Any preferences on hook size?

Nice to have you in for the first swap. That’s great. Just send me a private message when you’re done for my mailing address. I’ll gather em up, organize, and ship back out. Just let us know if you have any delays or run into issues finishing them up. Communication is where these things typically break down.

Thanks!

How many flies total, 6 or 8? Anyone have color combos they want?
Rob I will fish your fly on the North Umpqua! FontinalusFin I will take any size you tie, but won’t fish a fly sized in to the 00’s.

Oh shoot. Am I really too late? Was going to suggest tying up a fish taco or suskwa poacher to the list.
