My decades old Samsung is ready for replacement and I just want to drive down, pick up a new one and bring it home and install it. Nothing fancy, a good oven is my primary consideration. Any suggestions on who has the best selection , most knowledgeable staff and best service?

Most knowledgeable? Freds appliance or at least the commercial rep i dealt with for residential construction for selection/service. We replaced our Samsung last fall, luckily they had one in stock. Otherwise Home Depot or Lowes, but questionable staff, service sucks.
Question is, what are you looking for? We went this time with GE induction. So much nicer than Samsung.

Don’t know if they deliver to the frozen tundra but I’ve saved 50% over Home Depot or Lowes on a washer dryer two years ago and 40% on a dishwasher 3 months ago at Costco, exact same items. That’s not counting their free delivery, installation and takeaway. Two year warranty on most items.

Pat, I have been cooking on induction plates for almost 10 years now, I even have one in the Casa. Although I have a glass top stove, it hasn't been used as a cook top in years. Instead I use a Duxtop induction burner alongside of an Iwatani butane stove for all of my cook top needs. Starting point for induction ranges is about 2K and what I need is more like $700 Max. The oven is the big deal as I bake so much.

So only buying an oven?

I presume you're talking slide-in range. New, probably Freds is marginally better than the big box of your choice, Home Despot/Looowes/Best Buy...frankly if you can find one of 'em to deliver to ya I don't think you can go wrong. All will be screwy initially about temp, you'll need to calibrate it. If you're looking used, there are a lot of used stores around who deal mostly in apartment upgrades so they've got a lot of inventory. If I was looking used like I do for my beer fridge, the only one I'd recommend is Rk Appliances on East Sprague, He tests his, and tracks temperature trends over days, making sure they work. I learned more about refrigerator controls in a half hour there than I was interested in, but I'll be darned if I didn't get a good appliance at a very reasonable price. And you can walk a block east to the Union Tavern for a pretty darn good burger and a fine draft beer for lunch.
