If they aren’t planning on reopening the Snohomish until November 1st, I wouldn’t count on the Sky opening as planned sadly.
Yep. I think that was expected to happen.I was right. Got an email from WDFW that they are closing the Skykomish until further notice. No October 13th opener.
Exactly! The guides who book trips and now have to cancel or relocate are just part of the reason this sucks. Others schedule vacation days to get in on the fishery knowing it will go downhill every day after Oct 13, with fewer and fewer bright fish. If it's that close to the line that a few folks getting busted for retaining Chinook are enough for them to close the season WDFW should never have been scheduled it in the first place. If it's because of the low water and increased concentration of fish I could understand it more, but the least they could do would be to call that out so we understand why they waited until now to close it. Sorry, Rant Mode off. Time to step away from the computer and get a drink. Why even list it, its not like they didn't know there'd be Chinook spawning, fucking joke of a department!
Hello, our son is stationed in the Navy in Everett & is Interested in learning how to drift fishing areas for for steelhead off the bank….I was thinking of some smaller easy access gravel bars where he can maybe hook a couple to get his attention & excitement of steelhead fishing….The good news is the WDFW is finally doing something to protect the fish.
If you find some of those easy access gravel bars with steelhead, let me know. Sounds great!Hello, our son is stationed in Everett & is Interested in learning some easy access gravel bars bank drift fishing areas for, where he can maybe hook a couple steelhead to get his attention, and get him hooked…any suggestions?
Ok, thanks….sounds like the truth….too many people…I like southern Oregon & AlaskaUnfortunately, with all the closures and lack of plants steelhead fishing in the Puget Sound area just isn’t what it used to be.
If it was maybe 40 years ago, you would have had a lot more opportunities for easy access and good fishing.
The only real opportunity will be the Skagit system and that is in doubt this year due to budget concerns for monitoring. Everything else will be closed during the time you’d really actually want to fish them.
Sorry to paint such a bleak picture of our steelhead fishing.

Should be easy access now and plenty of steelhead.

Snohomish, Skykomish, and Wallace rivers fishing update
Action: Immediately returns all gamefish, sturgeon, and salmon seasons to permanent rules listed in 2025–2026 Washington Sport Fishing Rules for Snohomish River; Skykomish River, up to the boat ramp below Lewis Street; and Wallace River. The Skykomish River upstream of the boat ramp below Lewis...wdfw.wa.gov
I mean its been stated multiple times now that they closed it because people kept bonking chinook which blew through the chinook quota for the in river season. Blame the mouth breathers who cant ID a chinook, thought no one would notice their social media post holding kings out of the water at obvious snohomish river locations, and left chinook fillet left overs at boat launches. They finally decide to open the coho season when it is just about over in that system. Or at least towards its tail end with the vast majority firetrucks.
Very confusing fisheries management to say the least….

With the Chums comin' in, the fish will have more teeth than the methheads who bonk the ketas !!!!WDFW: Open the Snohomish system only when the Chinook are so broken down by fungus they are essentially river nutrients.![]()
