Vermillion? Used to go across to Trout Lake each spring when I was a kid. Miss that place!
No, but that would be a good option too! I haven't been on Vermillion since family vacations as a kid but remember how beautiful it is.

I do almost all of my Minnesota smallmouth fishing in rivers... ironically got hooked on this particular river because my boat motor was running very poorly one summer. I didn't dare use it on the big lake that I lived on, so I started fishing the local rivers a lot more, and always upstream of the landings!

I do my best to keep the Eagles well fed. Any incidental bass I catch have a very short lifespan after our encounter. Doing my best to clean up the trash.

I fully agree with this sentiment with one caveat. If that bass is inhabiting water that doesnt produce native fish then it can survive. I do not consider hatchery plants to be native fish.

For example, lake Whatcom is a great bass lake, which also produces coastal cutts and kokanee. Bass there get there gills popped because they are a problem.

Another lake about 20 miles north is a fantastic bass lake that 1. Does not connect to anadramous waters and 2. Does not naturally produce native species. Bass from there get to keep growing.

That's awesome...hooked for like!
For sure. It was pretty epic - he had hooked a little pumpkinseed on his fly rod that he was keeping in the water right below the dock because he wanted to show his little brother (who was up at the house). While he was waiting for his little brother to come down, I saw a big swirl right around the pumpkinseed (that bass had came out from under the dock and tried to eat the distressed pumpkinseed) and told him to drop his jig down in there. He dropped the fly rod he had caught the pumpkin seed on and threw his jig in the water and instantly the bass jumped out from under the dock and swallowed his jig. Epic hook set - he's definitely got some rowland martin in him. He got to see the whole thing happen right in front of him. The stoke was so high. He's definitely hooked on bass now.

There is nothing like watching a LM choking a jig right in front of you. It had a lasting impact in me and I was a grown up when I saw it the first time...6 months later I had a brand new Ranger bass boat And lost my mind for a decade😂
