I just bought a reel on the Mayfly Project's auction, which is rasing money to teach foster kids to flyfish (https://event.auctria.com/d5f38682-64f6-4ecc-b574-cc73180d3625/a780d600ec2e11e9ae081db830846aa5). there's some great stuff there!

The reel comes spooled with a "Scientific Angler WF-6-F Steelhead line:"

I don't see that line on SA's webpage: https://www.scientificanglers.com/p...ater-type=freshwater&filter_species=steelhead.

Does anyone know anything about this line? I'd be interested to know what it is closest to in terms of what SA sells now.

Thanks!

SA used to market the Mastery Series "Steelhead Taper" for single hand rods. It was a WF line with a looooong rear taper rather than the shorter taper of a typical WF line. It helped with making long mends. You might find info on it searching for "Mastery Steelhead Taper" or similar terms.

I don't know what current SA line would be similar.

That's a great line!!!! Sadly discontinued and with no real replacement., at least not that I am aware of. They had a line called the Anadro but it wasn't the same.

Whoo hoo! Thanks, Rob. The Ross CLA is also sadly discontinued. It is my favorite reel.

Would be a great line for single hand spey of something like the Deschutes or Ronde.

It's got enough mass you could use it for bass.

I bet you could even use a sinking poly leader if you wanted.

This page has the line profiles: https://www.flyshack.com/DisplayItem.aspx?ItemID=103664&src=froogle

I agree it'd be great for single-handed spey -or for a smaller two-hander for that matter. It's got a longer head than some of the lines marketed as lines for two-hand rods.

I used to fish the line on single-hand rods in the 90s. It was my favorite before going to 2-handed rods in the late 90s. I only fished it dry but you could definitely fish sinking poly leaders.

My lines were SAs Mastery series which I wore out and are now long gone. I still have a tan one that was Ultra3 that I have hardly fished.
