To use the classifieds, you must be a "forum supporter" (click "account upgrades" on your profile at the top of the page or click "Support PNWFF" in the menu above). This applies to all types of classified ads including WANTED or WTB ads.

Other important rules......

  • Title.
    • Don't use ALL CAPS or eye catching characters like !!!, * or ✪.
    • Don't include a sale price in the subject line.
    • Don't add "for sale" or "FS", that's what the prefixes are for.
    • Don't add "UPDATED" just because you changed the price.
  • Prefix. The title prefixes are FS sale, WTT trade, FS/T for sale or trade, Wanted, SOLD.
  • Your FS classifieds post.
    • Price. It's not an auction so include your price.
    • Description. Be clear about what it is and especially regarding condition.
    • Photos. Include photos and yes, even if it's in "new" condition.
  • Communication. Do your best to communicate well. It's expected and appreciated. And get those tracking ID's!
  • Updating your ad. Updates for something selling, or a price change, or to get your ad listed back at the top of the classifieds list.
    • Edit your original ads post to note price change or "sold" next to an item as needed if your selling multiple items.
    • Be sure to reply to the ad with an update. That reply will pop the ad back to the top of the list, which is listed by ads last post activity.
  • Selling multiple items. If you have multiple items, list them by item on a single ad. Update the original post as items are sold or to adjust prices.
  • Business usage. Yes, you are welcome to use the classifieds. Primarily it's for shops, guides, boat builders, gear or accessory manufacturers, fly tiers, low volume hobby business stuff, etc. If you have a question regarding your business usage, send the mods a message.
    • With your ongoing usage, we will need to discuss sponsorship to support the site. If sponsorship isn't a good fit, then we will require a minimum $25/mo membership.
    • Your items or services should be relevant.
    • Identify your business in your signature.
  • Payment. When trading money online for goods or services when you don't know the other person... Use PayPal.
    • If you don't know the person, don't use PayPal friends and family. You lose your buyer protections. People doing this is how we've experienced issues in the past. Besides being against PP TOS, it's frowned upon.
  • SOLD. If the item has sold, change the prefix to indicate SOLD or just delete the ad. If your ad has many items listed, edit the original post and add a "sold" behind items that have been.

Just a quick question about the rules. If we are listing a couple of items that are quite different like a bunch of flies and then a reel should we combine those in a single ad, or is it alright to have more than one? Could we just have a cap on active classified threads by a single user (maybe 2 or 3)?

This will be a case by case basis - but yeah, if it's within reason, no need to combine them all in to one.

Like Evan says, I think within reason there's no need to mash unrelated things into one. I mean, maybe don't list every fly you have for sale if you are clearing out the flyboxes. But if you're selling a float tube, a sweet pagagonia puffy, and a spey rod, there's no reason they can't all have their own ads.

I love hearing about the flotsam and jetsam that sometimes appear in classifieds. As General Motors used to say - for every rear end there is a seat.

10 post? Do replies to other threads count?
That's a good question. I'll have to check in the back end to verify. But I'm fairly sure it's just 10 posts/replies total. Not 10 new threads.

I have 16 17 now, and I don't see where I can post on the Classified. Thanks for checking. Inquiring minds want to know.

@Sam Roffe

It looks like you are approved and should be able to post in the classifieds. Can you check again?

@Divad

Can you make another post somewhere and help me test if the limit is "has to have 10" or "has to have more than 10"

If not this, then what?

I can now once my messages read 11. So the latter of your two. Cheers, and thank you 🙏

I totally understand and agree with the 10 post rule. A little less totalitarian than NAFF but enough to weed out the ruckus. However, I must say, the “you have insufficient privileges to post here” line is so demeaning! LOL!

But I no longer have “insufficient privileges”! :)
