Sad news. One of the deep, dark voices of Seattle music. I got to see him in clubs and small theaters with the Screaming Trees, QOTSA, and solo in the several years I lived in Seattle.

His covid battle was really something. Read about it in excerpts from his book last year, 'Devil in a Coma'.
Months in a hospital.
The Winding Sheet was his debut solo. Whiskey was the follow up.This is definitely a sad loss. Lanegan was an underrated singer that didn't quite get the same attention that other Seattle (I'm counting Ellensburg as Seattle-adjacent) front-men had during the early 90's but you could tell he was broadly respected given the number of collaborations he had. The Screaming Trees were one of my favorite bands to come out of that era. Whiskey for the Holy Ghost was an amazing debut solo album that holds up well. Some of my favorite tracks from the Mad Season's Above album are the ones with both Lane Staley and Mark Lanegan - both haunting voices in their own way. May they rest in peace.
