I’m getting really sick of all the pigs that are making our state look like a complete shithole.
Half the bag is spent fireworks from the beach. We’ll continue to lose access if this stuff continues.

Fun weekend, paddled a lot, good numbers of fish. Boot's boot by another's. Limes and knotweed....speaking of knotweed, this looks to be really invasive based on the amounts washing up on beaches...

And if you are looking for sandy features that hold cutts, this is the kind of sand you want

Went to the Ansel Adams exhibit at Mohai and came back inspired, started playing around with dark B&W:

I haven't seen much Japanese Knotweed since moving here from New England. Back there, it's a scourge.

Yeah and if those little broken bits are green/viable, they can grow a whole new plant! It’s definitely at the point where control and management strategies need to be and are starting to be decided. It’s out there, real bad in some places, just huge monocultures all through the riparian understory.

Back home after a week in the Midwest. Lots of chores to do this afternoon, so I decided to stay local and hit a MA 10 beach.
Started at 4:30 and called it a day at 8:30 as the tide petered out and got weedy.
The fish have plumped up since I last hit this beach about a month ago which is good to see. A decent amount of fish to hand, some fry and some targets to fish to.
First fish I hooked today was a jumbo. Must have jumped at least eight times before finally releasing itself on the last jump. That was a super solid fish.
Only used one fly today, a solid white 2” clouser.
Came upon a fawn that must have just been killed or I interrupted the act as I hiked on the trail to the beach. The doe was there pacing and not happy with my presence so I gave her a wide birth. The fawn was gone when I returned. I noticed a lot of furry looking scat on the trail so likely one of the resident coyotes got the fawn. I’ve been seeing a lot more deer in my neighborhood lately.
Nature is a cruel mistress.
A few pics from today. Time for some yard work… ;(

My godson was out on a walk with his son today in the south sound.
He sent me some pics. He said the beach was littered with sandlance left high and dry by the big minus tide. Nice size sandlance for this time of year.
Always cool to see and I’m sure the birds were happy.

Any ever fry a plate of them up and try them? Ceviche?
Like smelt! One time back in the day when I was living out of my truck and camping along the Northern California coast I walked out on the beach and thousands of little 4" baitfish leaped out of the water onto the sand right in front of me, like I've seen happen during bluefish runs back east. I considered it a gift from the sea and gathered up a mess of them and fried them up over a driftwood fire. They were delicious.

Took a five mile beach walk today after some deck work this morning.
Didn’t know there was such a place as “Shlong Beach” I guess I need to get out on the beaches more. I found out soon enough when I looked up from looking for glass and saw four nude dudes playing frisbee and maybe another dozen nude people laying on the beach. I headed back south immediately…… ;)
Nice day for a walk as it wasn’t too hot.

Still they weren't hauling ass and the wake wasn't too bad. Fished a few spots today and in general the fishing was a mite slow. 8 cutts and one coho, resident. The Coho was the most fun, lots of jumping

In one likely spot I threw lots of patterns and had a few solid strikes and tied on the popper figuring things couldn't get worse. As soon as it was on had four strikes in a row, and as usual, no hookup, and then things went quiet. Now I'm fishing standing up in a kayak, anchored in a light current, so there is an angle to it where you can see, as the popper or fly gets close, whatever is chasing it.

With the popper retrieve something very large and light brown came up behind it. I suspect it was a seal though wasn't absolutely sure. I was not keen to hook a seal though it looked like whatever it was, was smart enough to know my home tied popper was a dubious meal. On the way to another spot I made the mistake of trolling through active terns feeding. The terns were very keen to harass my fly, at least until I figured out what the hits were. So two times I did a fast haul ass to prevent some dumb accidental bycatch.
