Pen Tac Gear

I've gone in and out of building spinners, but it's just not that fun. Decided the $5 or whatever to get one pre-made was worth it.

I also don't like tying flies. Arts and crafts apparently isn't my thing.

I have dabbled in steelhead spinners & have made bunches of golf tee spinners for a few Alaska fishing lodges. I use a Twist tech tool for mass production of salmon spinners

Anyone make there own spinners & spoons?
Yup. For years. Everything from drift to trolling spinners. Always loved Pentac. I have a bunch of spinners I need to build.

I will admit, like @Evan Burck , I do like to just buy them made. Still have my spinner making vise so will make them occasionally. Plus I have so many trolling spoons and spinners built that I'm good in that department.

I should also add I do buy spoons from Pen Tac and Rvrfsher. Build them up when I need them.

I think Rvrfsher is donefer. I tried to make my annual purchase and they seem to be wiped from the internet. I won't deal with Pen Tac, so have gone to buying the P-Lines. They work just the same.

I'd buy from R&B, but he's always out.

Are they? I know I had placed an order last September. Damn if I had known that I would've bought a hell of a lot more.

Onto Penn Tac. I had bought enough components to make spinners for decades, and have. Think i still have enough to make 100-200 more. I subsidize by buying Blue Foxes and a few other style spinners.

Started making own mepps type spinners mid 70’s. I was taught to use 3/16 hollow core lead for the body and used size 2 too 4 blades. Used small needle nose pliers to bend wire. Inexpensive and work great as long as you don’t want colored lures. If you want to change the action of the lure just trim off some lead.

I don't fish spoons and spinners that often, so I bought a bunch of R&B components, twisted up the standard color combos for the different Oregon fisheries I partake in, and was done with it. I also like their spoons. I don't think he's had many spoons available for a while though, and I haven't seen anything gold plated for a long time.

First strike lures also sold R&B stuff, but I don't think they work together anymore. They make their own spinners though that seem good, and they have gold and matte silver spinner blade finishes, but I don't think they sell spoons.

Yeah I remember the old Mepps that had the lead body with a plastic cover over the body. Damn things cast a country mile. We made a few like that too. Definitely cheaper than buying.

I have a complete kit for making the Jed Davis style spinners and enough made to last a good long while.

The flying condom? Or was that something different? It was a spinner with a lead body with a rubber tube over the lead. Allegedly the first versions used a colored condom. I remember seeing them sold as the “flying C”.

That would be the one.

I’ve got some Rvrfshr spoons and spinners available for sale if anyone is interested. I think I’ve had them for a good 10 years at least.
Drop me a pm if you are interested.

Was just browsing Craigslist today and wouldn’t you know.

Trip down memory lane there. I remember hand cutting and hand stamping all of the card inserts, along with printing and stickering the backs for all of the different offerings back in 05-07... PITA!
If those were 1/0 and 2/0 octopus hooks from those first bulk batches (instead of siwash), I'd love to still have me some.
