Partial feather storage?

I always have a pile of partial hackle feathers on my desk. I don’t want to just shove them back in the cape/saddle bag but I’d like to keep them a bit more organized so they don’t get lost or thrashed.

What do ya’ll do? Also, no need to show me a picture of your messy ass desk as proof that you don’t do anything ;).

Small, long zip lock bags work great. Cheap, easy to see what are in them, keeps critters out. Amazing what is available online. 100 bags for under $5 bucks.

I use a zip lock sandwich container.

I measure what I need and leave the parts I didn’t use attached to the skin/bundle and in the bag. What’s left on the table are like 1” or less and unusable for my clumsy hands.

Why you gotta be smart like this ;)?

I mean, honestly, this is what I should just be doing. It’s hard when some of these genetic saddle feathers are like 8 feet long though.
You've stumbled onto why Randy ties so many musky flies. He secretly hates muskie fishing, just forced into it because the panfish he prefers to tenkara for won't eat them.

Edit: Randy says it's "musky".

I use common ziploc sandwich bags and let my OCDness run wild 🤪

I found they fit almost perfectly in the $1 plastic shoe boxes.

Then, if ya insert a piece of thick paper or cardstock, it can be labeled. 🤪🤪

AND the stiff paper provides rigidity so they can be filed like the old school card catalog drawers us old folks grew up with. 🤪🤪🤪

And then....when the shoe boxes go on sale you can get a buttload of them and hoard more and more stuff🤪🤪:LOL:
