Is there anything more summer than July in SW Montana with Kenny Chesney playing Saturday night at Bobcat Stadium? Holy shit, I can't even believe I just typed that.

Fun fact, this is only the second concert ever held at our stadium. An estimated 25,000 folks will be in attendance. This will be one of the top 10 biggest concerts held in Montana (Pearl Jam at Grizz Stadium in Missoula is probably the biggest.)

Another fact, this will be the biggest gathering of hot chicks ever at a concert in Montana. Hot girls LOVE Kenny...almost as much as me. When I worked at the Gorge in the early 2000's Kenny came. He blew away the attendance record held by Dave Matthews. He also brought out some major talent. That was the most fun show I worked during the two years I was there.

I drove by campus yesterday and got a sneak peak. Damn, this stage is massive.

It took something like 25 rigs to haul in all of the gear. I stopped and talked to a couple of the drivers. First time in Montana and they loved it.

This show was supposed to happen two years ago but continued to get delayed with COVID. This is such a big deal for our little town. We just don't get a lot of big acts and everyone has been talking about it. Even folks who don't listen to country are stoked.

Kenny is from East Tennessee and I grew up just outside of Chattanooga. I remember the first time I heard him....I was like a sophomore or something in high school. I was a fan.

Roll the windows down, turn it up, and wave at the hot chicks.

We rarely get big names here in Walla Walla. I never got to see ZZ Top back in the day, but my wife surprised me with tickets back in early June. Of course no Dusty Hill, but after 2 songs when they got the sound right and the band was warmed up, it was 80 minutes of what I expected, classic sounds. Really fun. Lots of food, and if you drink wine, vendors aplenty.

Can hardly believe I've got a sorta' country channel playing on Pandora this morning. Some Johnny Cash, Ryan Bingham, and who knows what else, but there's some twangy guitar. Definitely not my usual.

Wait, I thought you had a booty call fishing trip for this weekend. Are you saying Melissa deflected your advance and steered you to a country music concert instead?

Yeah, what a great time. Sure, the show is scripted and somewhat predictable. But Kenny has so many hits that pretty much the entire show is one big sing along.

And Bobcat Stadium is a fantastic venue.

Yeah, really cool event for our town and glad we got to participate.

That will be a good one. Not a fan of large venue concerts, a couple years ago I took the wife to see Al Green and Gladys Knight at a local casino, outdoors and small venue. She’s a big R&B fan and it was her birthday. I was very impressed, The Rev had just put out a new album and his band was the studio musicians who played on the album, some of the best. Gladys came out on her first number a bit rough but she soon found her stride and was really nailing the songs. It was a good time.
My favorite venue is our local restored Fox theatre; balcony seating is couches and armchairs, taproom in-house. Seen Johnny Rivers, Peter Frampton, Chris Hillman, John Prine, Steve Earle, Ryan Bingham there.

Have tickets for The Roots and then George Clinton and PFunk in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to first live music in a few years.
