I had a pleasant surprise while out bear hunting a couple weekends ago. I don't find it a lot but man is chicken of the woods good!

Nice haul! Whites are superior to golden chanterelles IMO. So fragrant.Took a trip down to Hood River with some friends to visit a buddy of ours for their birthday. The person responsible for getting me into the world of mushroom foraging. Our hope was to get on some porcini's and matsutake's but we were either too early or too late. Very dry.
We turned our attention to looking for white chanterelles. Between the 4 of us, we landed around 12lbs all together with a few bonus lobsters.
It was a bittersweet visit as our friend has been living with ALS for the last 7 years or so. His legs are still very capable of getting him around and once we parked at a spot, he was gone.
Season should be picking up after some rain. Headed to the Olympic Peninsula this weekend to look for golden chanterelles + ride some bikes. Not necessarily in that order.

I have been looking for thread about deadly mushrooms, I want to ask that How have deadly mushrooms been used historically in medicine, folklore, or even myths?Spend an hour tromping around the woods on the weekend, and find one, potentially deadly mushroom.
Walk the dogs in the backyard after work and find a nice patch of legit morels popping next to our power pole. Go figure!

Wow, those lobsters must be pretty tough if you need a saw!
Maybe I don’t need to cut them? I don’t know the real protocol since I’m a complete novice but I was driving along and saw it and believe it or not couldn’t find a knife in the truck (or my pocket).Wow, those lobsters must be pretty tough if you need a saw!![]()
Plucking them from the ground is completely fine. What you did is fine too. Less cleaning at the end of the day.Maybe I don’t need to cut them? Are there any you should avoid plucking for any reason?Plucking them from the ground is completely fine. What you did is fine too. Less cleaning at the end of the day.
