Mobile, Alabama area gulf fishing

I'm going to be headed to Dauphin Island, Alabama for a few days and I'm of course bringing a fly rod. I guess redfish and speckled trout can be caught from the beach. I'm bringing some clousers and shrimpy patterns. Has anybody fished in this area before? Any advice on flies or tactics? Thanks!

The key to beach fishing is to go early before the beach crowd shows up. I'd start wading about shin deep and look for redfish cruising parallel to the shore. No offense to this site but you should really ask this question on the Gulf Coast section of Microskiff. Lots more traffic on there for that area and how we fishi down here.

I fish nearby where you will be at. I use a weighted crab type fly (or something like a shad jig) and work the outflows where the return flows breach the sand bar. Bring a stripping basket. And I use a high density line as it feels easier to control in the surf.
