My general rule: When I'm wearing boots I run a higher short. But for sneakers, flip flops, sandals, etc I run lower. It is all about the amount of leg showing. When I was under 40, shorts sit at the knee or just below. Above 40, shorts now sit right above the knee.

It's flood tide season here in the Lowcountry, with knee deep water being the sweet spot. Water deeper than your knees and you won't see the tailing redfish, water shallower than your ankles and they won't push up onto the grass flat.
