For sure a "see" not a "feel" thing. And to be honest, you don't even see it unless you catch a reflection or see it happening with someone else.I've been looking at the Chinook as well. Can you feel/notice that the back doesn't lie flat or is that just something that you see? Looks like not lying flat could lead to increased airflow, which might be a "feature"![]()

That is the one I have, in that color. I recommend it.I have the NRS Chinook; I don't go on the water without it regardless of boat type. I find that I really don't notice that I have it on, even in my Outcast Fatcat. @Freestone has recommended bright colors so were more visible to motorboat drivers. Mine is green, I wish I'd bought this: https://www.nrs.com/nrs-chinook-os-fishing-pfd/pda2
I don't fish in my float tube where I'm going to subjected to motorboats roaring around, so far..... but Freestone's advice is spot on.That is the one I have, in that color. I recommend it.
The only thing I dislike about the whitewater focused ones is that they often lack pocket/gadget space.I've had good luck over the years with whitewater-style pfds, because they're made for folks who need to move: rowing, paddling, etc.
People just need to be sure not to overload the pockets, which can interfere with self-rescue as well as reduce the buoyancy which can become an issue if you are on the upper end of the weight scale. The only thing I dislike about the whitewater focused ones is that they often lack pocket/gadget space.
That’s why I think the fishing specific ones from whitewater companies (NRS, Stohlquist, etc) hit the sweet spot.
I always figured my spare tire adds to my buoyancy!People just need to be sure not to overload the pockets, which can interfere with self-rescue as well as reduce the buoyancy which can become an issue if you are on the upper end of the weight scale.
