Kayak/Pontoon boat PFD recommendations?

It's time to finally update my ancient hand-me-down PFD so I'm looking for some recommendations. I'd prefer to stay with a non-inflatable one.

Does anyone have a particular brand/model they like/dislike?

I picked up the NRS Chinook a while back and as far as comfort and functionality, it's been great. My father in law has one as well and has no complaints.

I do feel like the back doesn't lay quite flat, which I find a little odd. Don't know if I have a slightly wrong size or if it's just a body shape thing or if it's by design. You can see a bit of that I'm talking about here in this REI screengrab.

I have a NRS Chinook OS and like it. The high back sits above the float tube/kayak seat back nicely, and it has useful pockets.

I've been looking at the Chinook as well. Can you feel/notice that the back doesn't lie flat or is that just something that you see? Looks like not lying flat could lead to increased airflow, which might be a "feature" :)

For sure a "see" not a "feel" thing. And to be honest, you don't even see it unless you catch a reflection or see it happening with someone else.

I have a Kokatat I wear on my 2-seat pontoon boat both floating rivers and scooting around lakes. It's biggest virtue is it fits me comfortably.

I've had good luck over the years with whitewater-style pfds, because they're made for folks who need to move: rowing, paddling, etc. Fishing does not seem to be restricted. Then I'd find one that fits. If it doesn't fit, you won't wear it, and if you don't wear it it's No F&*I)!ing Good to anyone. It won't even help us recover your body. So find one that fits.

The only thing I dislike about the whitewater focused ones is that they often lack pocket/gadget space.

That’s why I think the fishing specific ones from whitewater companies (NRS, Stohlquist, etc) hit the sweet spot.

People just need to be sure not to overload the pockets, which can interfere with self-rescue as well as reduce the buoyancy which can become an issue if you are on the upper end of the weight scale.
