Kamloops/Banff road trip

Family and I took a road trip to Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper with Kamloops being the mid-way overnight stop. Had a nephew tagged along with my son and daughter so needless to say my 4runner was packed to the rim plus the dog frequently changing his mind on where to sit/lay :)

The Canadian rockies landscape was incredible, we stayed 2 nights in Banff and 1 night in Lake Louise area. Visited Jasper the last day and headed to Kamloops for the last night.
Did everything on our checklist and more.

Bow fall and Lake Minnewanka. I thought about fishing a fast sink line from shore at Minnewanka but it didn't look fishy from shore.

Lake Louise. We took the hike to the top to see lake Agnes, got hot chocolates and baked goods. Everything is hauled up here by the staff.

I did fish Quarry lake in Canmore, nearby town. It supposed to have artic graylings that were stocked a long time ago but could only find suckers.

Booked a half day with a guide on our last day in town to fish Jacko lake nearby Kamloops town center. It was slow since prime time has passed and algae is in bloom. He did position me in some good spots and I found a few energetic Penaskat rainbows, stomach pump revealed damsel nymphs and scuds. There were some tadpoles swimming around in the middle of the lake as well. I got them on small olives and black leeches to imitate damsels and tadpoles.

Lastly, my awesome rig that got us everywhere.

Got a kick out of seeing your pics. When I was discharged from the military many years ago, I moved to Toronto, Ont. for a short time and then to Banff, Al.
Been to every one of those places and it is truly beautiful.

Great photos! Banff/Lake Louise/Jasper is such a great area. I've hiked up to the Plain of 6 Glacier Tea House a few times but never the Agnes Tea House. I'll have to try it next time. We've done a 6 day horse back trip out of Banff a few times now and it's always been one of our favorite trips. Always able to get in some fishing as well.

Back in the late '70s I stayed at Johnston Canyon on a family vacation. I recall catching a lot of brook trout there. I never saw another person fishing. What a beautiful place.

i went to school near calgary in the late 80's. lots of students worked in the parks over the summer, or tree planting. i had a good friend who worked security at the banff center and have a lot of fantastic memories of town and the surrounding area from weekend trips in term and driving to/from school in between during the periods when it was cheaper to drive in canada than the us. i discovered johnston canyon out for a random drive one day and just started working my way up without a plan. lots of brookies. i found myself in tighter and tighter spots as i moved up until finally i realized i was stuck on the wrong side of the creek with no safe way back down and a fairly narrow but certainly deadly stretch of the creek/falls between me and the trail. by that point i had come level with the trail and as i contemplated whether i could make the jump across, two young gals about my age (i was 21) asked me if i wanted them to go get help. that was the final motivation i need to just go for it. pretty dumb but it worked out. there must be a lot of pictures of me fishing that day scattered around the globe, cause the trail was packed with tourists and every time i looked up there were cameras pointed at me.
