-20 degrees this morning so the river out front is slushy. It has been pretty cold since Christmas never got above 25 degrees for a month but our rivers usually stay open enough to swing flies so I have been doing a lot of that.

Currently tying small size 8 spey style flies with ringneck pheasant rump for hackle to use for trout up here. I fish an old Loomis IM6 10’6” 6 wt rod that I added a 6” lower handle to make it the equivalent of a 3 wt “trout spey” 11’ rod.

Anyway, it is winter up here so it is cold as usual but beautiful and quiet. We love the winter so a lot of XC skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, and steelhead and trout fishing this time of year.

Be sure to post your flies on the "what's in your vice" thread if you're so inclined.

cheers

Apparently the northern lights were over our area two nights ago but we were cloud covered.
I haven’t been to Isle Royale yet but we will get there sometime. I live in the northern lower peninsula.
Canuck, my flies are fishing flies so rather crudely tied with lots of material substitutions and changes for expedience or ease. I am trying for the general look rather than strict adherence to the pattern. Also my proportions are usually a little to a lot off but fortunately the trout think they are fine. I probably should post them so others won’t be shy about posting too.

There are no rules on that thread with regard to proportions, recipes etc. Some incredible tiers, some experimenters, everything goes, and just about all you will get there is positive feedback.

Or, post on the "what's catching you fish" thread, in that one, most of the flies are wet and some chewed up.

Or, don't post any, it's all up to you - we're generally a fun lot over here.

cheers

Welcome to PNW!

Welcome. I also live in a deep freeze. Butte Mt. Was minus 15 the other day. But this winter is some what mild. The temps have been in the mid 30's in the day time but in single digit's at night. We get snow in the winter and it tends to stick are until March or April.

Hell, I already for got your real name, so how do you like that.🤪🤪
Yeah Jim, we all know you as the Legend from WFF. Read many of your posts from fishing around Dillon. My wife and I did a lot of small stream fishing in that area so always enjoyed your posts.
Hope to read more of those here!

Also from Michigan. Also just joined here. But I’ve been tying hoppers….🪲
