Out of the Columbia mouth. 7 species, 30 fish. Hit three separate sessions: offshore tuna, deep water bottomfish, and salmon troll.

ride out west from CR Sunday morning was pretty sporty, way bumpier than anticipated. It eventually laid down a bit around the 124.30.

In the cold green water around 20 / 40 we saw lots of life and activity: busting bait and happy birds so started an exploratory troll. Saw some tuna boiling under some birds almost immediately, so tossed a few jigs with no love. Kept trolling and immediately had our cedar plug rod go off with a hot one. I got a jig in the water immediately and hooked up right off the bat. Lost after a short battle.

Saw several fish right under the boat with conspicuously short fins and dropped again with another on and off hookup. Then gaffed the troll fish for the first tuna of the season: a nice little bluefin.

Instead of wasting more time we ran SW until we found warmer blue water. Had steady troll bites and a few jig fish until we called it early to do phase 2 of our trip.

Then phase 3 for three limits of salmon.

Nice grocery run.
Glad you got the freezer open. 😉

My chamber vac barely survived last night. Thing definitely needs an oil change.
I hear whales tend to be fairly oily...

Wow! A memorable day for sure, and a long one at that.
I have never caught or eaten petrale sole. They are bigger than I would have expected. Are they similar to halibut?

Definitely their own thing. I'd say oilier and not quite as firm. Somewhere between ling and halibut. Very, very good table fare.
