I'm diggin' the underwater shots, what do you use for those?

I was using a Canon D10, but have moved on to a Olympus TG-5.

Sweet! Glass is a gas for those smaller (and mid-sized) waters...and even larger waters, too. Boo too, but glass is more in my budget. Gorgeous photos!

Used to do a lot of that. Definitely a lot of fun, but unfortunately when they did the rules changes a few years ago I lost places I enjoyed fishing.

Kind of fun going through some old photos. Never fished this one but plan on changing that this year.

What a beautiful stream.

Love me some small stream fishing. The solitude, the beauty, the hungry wild fish. Sure, they may be small fish. But i don't know of a better way to make me smile while fishing than an afternoon in the summer sun on a small stream. Not me in the photo, but my buddy (and his stylish hat) fishing one of my favorite little creeks.

What I love about small streams is-in a word-everything. Their size is appealing because you can fish both sides and the middle, something you often can't do on a bigger stream. They are usually lightly fished so your chances of having a lot of water to yourself are much better. The streams are often beautiful and found in beautiful places. They require that you read water well and anticipate where the fish will be. They challenge us to cast accurately to avoid hangups. They are fun to wade and sound really good! And they usually have native fish that are more brightly colored than lake fish and fight beyond their weight and size. They will eat a fly that is 2X bigger than you think they can eat and are just a hoot to catch. And when you catch a 14'' fish out of water that normally holds 9-11 inchers you have had a very good day.

Freestone and I caught lots of big rainbows, lahontans and brooks last year up to about 25'' but I think we would both agree that the most fun we had was catching cutthroats in a cold mountain stream where a 15'' fish was an absolute trophy. Pure joy.

The "rugged" p&s cameras had a moment and seemed to have faded, but they've been an welcome addition to my fishing vests for a while now. I had an early Pentax, then a Panny (a distinct improvement) and then a Oly TG-4. As far as a minimalist, waterproof, durable, compact camera, the Oly TG- series is far and away the best IMO.

You all know I love small streams and expound their virtues ad nauseum. They are my happy place, and along with my grandkids, small stream fishing and everything involved is my suitable substitute to drinking.

This is great. In looking at the variety of waters we fish it's no wonder we come up different solutions for fly rod and fly choice. Tenkara, tightline, short rod, longer, 2wt, 5wt, dry, softhackle, nymph, streamer. When someone asks for a recommendation it would really depend, and even then I bet we all would succeed with our chosen method.

After using fixed - line Tenkara and Keiryu rods for virtually all rivers, streams, creeks I've fished since April 2018, I picked up a DRAGONTail FoxFire zx280 3-way Zoom fiberglass-hybrid T-rod just, released in December 2021 for very small streams to tiny creeks. It's the only glass T-rod on the market.
