I finally "get" it

Life of the Party
Initially I did not understand the problem with the "other" site and could not figure out why/how I was invited to this one. Maybe I am just slow, but all the threads about the change in ownership impacting personal information seemed a little paranoid to me. However, I now "GET" it. The amount of junk mail associated with the email I used for the original forum has jumped by at least 4x since the buy out. Just this morning I received 15 junk emails since last night at about 11p my time.

I am old and slow to learn, but I finally have figured it out!

Welcome again. I'm also old and slow. When you reach the golden years, your allowed to go slow. I have even slowed down my driving speed. I drive on Frontage roads when ever possible. I can drive my speed there. 55 and sometimes 60.

I also have been receiving "incredible offers" for goods and services that I have never considered. Seems quite obvious that the email list was the value the new owners sought. When I attempted to change my info I somehow made myself disappear on WFF and the administrator won't let me rejoin. That is unfortunate as I could surely provide some insightful responses in some of the dumpster fires created by those who stayed and just like to see their name in print.

The way I look at it:

I compare it to having a loving family and then all of a sudden being put into foster care with lousy adults taking care of you...

The new owners do not care about, scams, bots, trolls, etc. They only care about monetizing information

The change was not handled well. Change usually isn't. The TOS/TOU change was not handled well at all and caused a huge stir, as it should. It was probably illegal on how they did it.. Losing all privacy and rights to one's PI is beyond disgusting.

Yup. Buying up forums to data mine is a new one on me ... but obviously the practice is alive and well ... legal or not.

The use of an email program that blocks specific senders and/or sends spam to isolated folders helps reduce the clutter.
