His work and persistence paid off

Nolan is very patient and persistent, two qualities that help to make a good hunter or fisherman. He has worked hard to improve and hone his shooting, sign reading and calling since he started hunting two years ago. We went out for a quick trip yesterday afternoon to a area that's been good to me over the years. He hiked in about a 1/4 mile from where I entered and not long afterwards called in a doe that had this guy following close behind. I heard a BOOM and was sure his work paid off. It did. I gutted it out for him but he got to do the work dragging it back (uphill). Well done Nolan!

Very nice!!! Will be good eats!
Yes indeed. We ate the heart and half the liver last night with fried onions and potatoes, some freshly-picked Chantarelles with some red wine.

One of my favorite meals, except I cooked the liver too much and botched it up again.

If it's kept nice and pink inside it's mild and delicious, but once it gets grey its texture becomes gritty and it has a strong aftertaste. I swear it's so, but Nolan isn't quite convinced. 😐
