flyrod size flatfish

Hello to All,

I own a couple tiny - size F3 - Helin's flatfish. This is a size apparently no longer produced. It is small enough to case with a fly rod, which I do with some success.

It seems that one could 3-D print these, and add hooks and eyes. Has anybody ever tried this? I want to make them and paint them different colors.

I will see if I can get my son to print some up, with the ribbing inside, thanks!

Does he know Solid Works well enough to duplicate the design from scratch? Doing a custom 3d print job is quite a process.

He is really very good at 3D printing and scanning to make patterns. When he was in high school, he actually built a 3D printer from scratch!

He scanned a plastic clip I use to attach my tonneau cover to my old Alfa Romeo spider and made a dozen of them; they are all better than the originals! Most of those were broken, as happens with 46-year old plastic. He also makes some sort of creatures for his strategy games, by buying one, scanning it, and making copies. I cannot tell the original from the copy, after he lightly sands down any ridges. Now, he has a 3D printer that uses liquid instead of filament, so no more ridges there.
