Fly tying collection donation

I have someone that reached out to me looking for a new home for all of their tools and materials. I told them I would work to find someone. I made a few direct contacts but haven't found a home yet.

Here's what I was sent:

Fly tying, rod building, and fly fishing have been a sacred part of my past life. As you know, these activities bring a serenity and a sense of accomplishment for some that is truly transformative in life. As my wife has told you, I am now in a point of life where I would like to donate my complete set of materials, vest and rod to a veteran or an individual in need who would benefit from the activities in the same manner that I did.

I have attached photos of everything, including:

  • Vise, pliers, scissors, whip finisher
  • Materials including marabou, hackles, flash, etc.
  • Hooks and beads
  • Thread and wire
  • My Orvis vest
  • Several reels
  • My homemade 9’ 6wt rod
  • My wishes for all the serenity and happiness that this gear has brought to me

As this is my personal gear, everything is of highest quality. Thank you for your thoughts on getting this to the right person. It is at our home in North Seattle.

Alternate idea is auction blocks off and donate the collected money to something the donor believes in... looks like a really nice lot of stuff. And if I was just starting out and had no cash etc I doubt I would know what to do with a lot of all that top shelf gear and supply! Many elementary schools and nonprofit groups solicit for auction donations....

K-12 school fly clubs perhaps? If such things exist these days.

I know there are college clubs around. No idea how much tying they do or teach.

Maybe the Mayfly project that @Northern is involved in?
Thanks for thinking of us!

The caveat with The Mayfly Project is just to know that donated materials don't go directly to the kids. They are auctioned off to finance local TMP projects.
(TMP tries to make sure each kid gets the same, new, equipment/supplies in their kits so all feel treated equally.)

If anyone does want to donate stuff, that can be done through the national headquarters, which can issue a tax receipt. I think you can specify which chapter for proceeds to go to, though.
(We have sometimes solicited donations for a local, chapter auction, but don't have one planned at this time.)

Local vet here (USMC) in North Seattle if you don't find someone who's in need first. I am not new to fly fishing but I just started tying a little over a year ago and still learning. If there's a better candidate or another veteran who is in need, please consider them first.
