Firehole Outdoors Closing

In my email box this morning. All the best to Joe and his crew at Firehole.

It is time for Firehole Outdoors to come to an end.
As many of you know, I started this endeavor 12 years ago in my basement in Bozeman, MT, when all that I wanted was to make an extra truck payment, but at our peak, we were in ~250 shops worldwide and have shipped nearly 1 million packs of hooks and beads since the start.

After the long fumble in the first 2 years after we lost Deb, I really thought the relaunch last fall was going to stick. We were just way to far upside down in the end. The kids and I always said we would have bankrupted everything for Deb, and it turns out we pretty much did. It just doesn't make sense to try and continue forcing something to happen.

I am very proud of the ministry reach we achieved with Firehole Outdoors, and we will continue those efforts. We're holding an end-of-business product liquidation sale and will use those proceeds to support a future business and ministry endeavors.

Thank you very much for your support all these years.

All my best,

I loved their hooks for my mids, razor sharp and strong. Was wanting to try their dry hooks, I’ll maybe look online but likely all the sizes I want are already gone. Their 16s were on back order last time I looked😩

Someone on here turned me on to Risen hooks. Nice quality and affordable.

The 633 is my absolute go to hook for nymphs (especially droppers). I went ahead and ordered 72 18s and 72 20s (they're 1x long and 1x gap so effectively 16s and 18s). Should hold me over for a bit.

Was at my local shop yesterday…
He mentioned that someone has purchased either the name and/or other proprietary properties. These hooks may only be available at dealers only in the near future.

Anyone else hearing any similar intel from their local shops?

Well over a year ago I heard from a local shop that they were going to stop carrying Firehole because of its inability to reliably provide its very high quality product. They were liquidating their stock of Firehole hooks at a deep discount.

Having already amassed a large quantity over the years I then purchased a great many more boxes...easily acquiring a lifetime supply.

I've found that in today's chaotic business environment one cannot depend upon the continued survivability of firms that provide any sort of product....so I tend to 'hoard up' on outdoor recreational stuff I really like. Between death or exhaustion of key product owners/originators, supply line difficulties, or private equity/vulture capital scavengers (which really only care about maximum short term ROI) even firms that might outwardly appear eminently sustainable can disappear at any time. Small boutique firms are especially fragile.

I just ordered a bunch of FHS 718s from JStockard.

I really like this hook, most of the time. I do like the general shape and hooking ability but I wish it was a tad stouter.

The outfit that purchased Firehole finally decided to simply liquidate the remaining product; that's what's showing up now at various vendors. Sort of a 'Fire' sale. 😮‍💨

I reached out and got this...They be open for business.

Good Morning Dave
Thank you for reaching out. I bought the company from Joe (former owner) after he announced he was closing.
So yes, we are back up and running after building up inventories again and a brand new website.
Thank you,
John
