Drunella flavilinea nymphs

Drunella flavilinea nymphs are common in the Russian River from mid-February through May. They prefer areas of fast water and cobbled bottoms. There is quite a bit of color variation in these nymphs.

Does such drastic color variation make identification difficult?

The red in the one is striking.

The red in the one is striking.
Not really, they're found in the same area, they all have the same sharp projections on the femur of the forelegs and the same sharp projections on the dorsal side of the abdomen. A lot of ephemerellids have color patterns that vary widely among individuals.
