Deer hair popper for tropical fish?

I'd like to try and tie a couple poppers with deer hair for a trip to Ascension Bay. Maybe for baby tarpon and anything else after a surface fly. I've tied up a few of the standard foam poppers. Seems like a streamlined bass popper might do the trick. Any further insight would be appreciated though.

I have caught stuff on deer hair in the tropics. Haven’t found it to be any better or worse than anything else. The combination of warm salt water and toothy fish is not friendly to deer hair, so the flies only last a fish or two.

I had success with a guide who had us throwing “tarpon mice” (basically a bullethead deer hair slider) to laid up tarpon. They worked well. 1/0 hooks, lots of different colors of them.

I always rely on Darwin's lowest common denominator as far as fish going for one of my flies. There's always a stupid ......... FISH
Thanks' for saying that out loud! I count on it too.:)
