I have a buddy down on the Gulf that needed a couple of new reels for the salt. So I suggested he get Colton's. He did and I spooled them up for him and he has used them with me on my skiff all last winter and this spring. Terrific reels. For the cost they are fantastic.

I have a Torrent 9-11 I bought 10 years ago for fishing on the east coast. It's a seriously beefy reel. Most of them were designed with fishing from boats for big saltwater fish in mind. I think the Colton drag is overkill for trout and steelhead, but it does balance my two handed rods (overhead and spey), so I still have it around. The drag out of the box can stop a truck and you can even send it back to be stronger (maybe I will chase ulua someday!). You can search stripersonline for lots of discussion, the owner posts there as well.

The general consensus is they are great reels for the money, bulletproof and the customer service is good.
