Classic reels

A family of Farlows. A pair of three inch Farlows Grenabys, a pair of 3 and 7/8 inch Farlows BWP's and a pair of 4" Farlows BWP's.

And here's a link to a great Flylife article on Major Barton William Powlett, the inventor of the B.W.P. reel. John Orrelle's Fly Reels of the Past called the B.W.P. "perhaps the finest general purpose fly reel made by Farlow." Three cheers for the Major. Here he is later in life at a casting competition. Probably a big Farlows Regal on that two handed bamboo fly rod. This is when men were men...

Here’s a Farlows BWP with the red agate line guard (it was an option) in the upper right. Reel on the upper left is a JW Young “Exchequer” with a sliding/rotating line guard, and the reel on the bottom is a Pflueger Progress skeleton style reel with the appropriate for the day reel oil.

I don't have that many old classics but I have one that is really nice. Which is a Forrest and sons which smooth as butter. I thought I would throw in some pic of local reel makers and one international builder that are sticking to building amazing reels. Matt Zinkgraf out of Bellingham and Mark Shamburg coastal guide and reel maker. And the Minnimoto reels out of Japan which be are really nice 1000003220.jpg1000003221.jpg1000003222.jpg1000003223.jpg

Russell does 1, 2 and 3 refer to size and line capacity or are 2 and 3 later models of the same Ross reel?
1,2,3 and 3.5 were the sizes for different lines and capacity
At one time had all of the sizes but moved them on some time ago. Although I love their looks, they are silent and that really isn’t my style.

I have an old Pflueger Progress skeleton style reel with a broken pal spring. I know these reels aren't worth much, but this one belonged to my Dad and is a keepsake to me. Is there anyone out there that can fix a broken pal spring?
