This past Tuesday, I slipped across the border into California to fish on my buddy's boat and take advantage of the California's generous rockfish limits. Lake Pacific was just that, a big lake.

Yeah - I've only seen it this way a handful of times over the past 50 or so years I have spent time on the ocean. We had a nice variety of rockfish: canaries, coppers, a vermilion, a black, a few yellowtail and a smattering of deacons along with two limits of smallish ling cod. We fished in about 160' of water off Crescent City.

When I went to Costa Rica in 2008 the Pacific was that flat, the only time out on the big blue I wasn't nauseous!
