Browns

2021 was good year for brown trout for me. I estimate I caught at least 60 nice browns in Washington. This biggest change for me was at least 80% were on dries. It altered my perspective a little. I had always been a streamer guy for browns over 18 inches. Here's some of my better ones from 2021:

Those are some impressive results!

@Billy, when are you coming over. Seriously, we've been talking about it for a while.

Maybe grab @Dustin Chromers (he's been also talking about coming) and head straight for SW Montana. I have extra bedrooms or we take the camper and post up on the river.

I’ve caught some in WA, nothing like TJ though, but it has been rare enough that each one was special.

Pass Lake 21”.

The rest of these are in E Wa, all but two from different bodies of water.

This tiny one is my favorite brown as I got fishing a small creek with Ive last summer. I caught 4 different species in this beautiful small creek.

Those are gorgeous fish. We used to have browns down here, but no more, not with the ESA listings. Maybe after I find a whitefish I'll head north across the river and see if I can find one.

Awesome photos!

Confessional: I've never caught a brown trout in WA

Not, to be fair, I am not much of a stillwater fisherman. Which limits my nearby options. Someday I'll get off my ass and work the lakes a bit harder. Or more likely, just go to OR and fish them in moving water.

One of those rivers in your area has Browns in it. From what I read someplace. The river is "T". You have to figure out which one it is.

Try over on the dry side. There is a big river over there that has these bad boys in it. Or just ask Trip.

It’s too bad they don’t plant them in more western WA lakes.
I do understand the concern about them possibly getting into salmon and steelhead streams etc.
With that said, they’ve discontinued planting them in some lakes where that wouldn’t be an issue. I wonder the reasoning behind that. Cost perhaps? Too bad because we used to catch some very nice browns out if those lakes.
