Bellevue Fly Show February 14th and 15th

Had a fun talk with Ira at the Bellevue Fly fishing show. Booked a meadow lakes fishing trip. Learned about a Yellowstone area Boy Scout camp that rents rooms out really cheap when the scouts aren't there. Bought some fly tying hooks at 50% off. Talked spey lines and flies with Joe Rossano. Bought a book on classic streamer flies.

My impression was there were fewer exhibitors than last year. Wasn't crowded but I was there Sunday afternoon.

Went Saturday, worked 9am to 1pm at the Mayfly Project booth and met most of the mentor's that I'll be working with in April! Great people, Chris Williams was tying, Whitney was working another booth and the Mayfly Project booth. Hung out with John and Kyle!

Cast a TFO 12wt and bombed it out! Ran into Lex Story, Dov Young, Brian Lencho, Leland Miyawaki and many, many more! Got some swag, lots of it, and a ton of cool stickers and flies! Looked at a few boats and am planning on a trip to Christmas Island with friends. I hung out with Andrew at the Ikari booth! Great people all around. Spent much of my afternoon with a few of the tiers! David and Kuni.. Always fun and their are such amazing tiers all around.

Glad I went! Not that I needed much.. but it's always fun. Was too busy today to go again, but I had basically checked out all of the booths!

How is this show? I have been to just the typically puyallup sportsman’s shows, but never to the fly fishing show! Is it worth the go? Mainly guides and trips? Or are there some gear and different booths like apparel and what not?

I went this year and thought the seminars and fly tying demos are worth it. I went on Sunday and spent the whole day there. If you’re looking to go to booths and look for deals it’s somewhat disappointing. A bit surprising, companies like Sage/Far Bank,Simms, Skwala,Grundens, and Echo were no shows. Some local fly shops did attend.

I usually look at the seminar schedule and decide based on that which day to go to catch a few talks. Lots of good info. The fly tying and watercraft technology is usually interesting. It’s also cool to see a lot of the guides and lodges for ideas on future trips. It’s not an every year thing for me, but every 2-3 years it’s definitely worth it.
