Be careful out there

Bogie isn't THAT benign. It has a few spots that are sneakily dangerous. I remember that rapid, can't remember the name... Icebox? I was fishing at the bottom of it one time and watched a couple different boats come down it ping-ponging off the right bank

I've been eyeballing that quick chute below Icebox for years. The guides make it look easy, but l would definitely take 5 after fishing the big pool, go river right and beach it & take some time before lining it up and running that with my watermaster. Always looked sketchy to my eye

Anyone want to drop a shot from Google Maps where Icebox is at on that float? I haven't done that stretch but was planning on it this year. I've usually done 101 down to the hatchery but the launch at 101 has been gated off.

I've run rivers like the Sandy from Brightwood down a bunch and the South Fork Calawah a couple of times I'd always heard the hatchery Bogey float was pretty mellow.

Wear your life jackets.

Haven't been there in almost 15yrs, but if I remember right, this is it here.

But if you're comfortable on the floats you mention, then you'll have no problem. It's more one that novice rowers or someone not paying attention could get themselves in trouble with.

Always cool how all those great rivers come together.
Now if we only had solid fishery management the last 60 years!!!

I don't know if this is true or not, the survivor said they hit a sweeper right after they put in.

Below an update on last week's tragic event on the Bogachiel, confirming that nobody was wearing life jackets when their boat got pinned against a tree and capsized killing a father and his young son. Lone survivor managed to cling to a tree branch and called 911. Family dog also survived and was found a couple of days ago. Search suspended for the 1 person still missing. Could this thread be moved to the Safety section?

Tragic and preventable. Egregious that the kid wasnt wearing a life jacket.

Yes, that's it. Easier to see on the satellite view where it narrows and pushes towards the bank.

I don't know the Sandy but the SF Calawah including "hell's half mile" is waaay more difficult and 20x longer than the Ice Box rapid on the Bogachiel.
