Balanced Minnow

A tier named Curtis Kauer on the Facebook group Panfish On the Fly shared a technique of using safety pins versus straight pins to create balanced minnow patterns.

I played around a bit with it.

The first picture shows the skeleton of the pattern and the second shows a completed pattern.

From there I thought about how I could use this method to better balance a wounded minnow pattern that swims on its side.

In a cup they balanced perfectly.

From below it’s the subsurface sound searcher. I could see this drawing a leviathan up from the deep. Well done!

Excellent tie. I wonder if you used a red bead that the red bead would look like the gills through the overlying materials.

Good idea. Looking at juvenile perch and other species like fat heads, black and white seemed to match best to match the profiles out there.

I’d buy that one. Nice.
