Baitcaster Curious

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned is the ability to run much heavier line on a casting reel compared to a spinning reel. 20# heavy cover or fluorocarbon is no problem on a bait caster.
14 # line extra limp (berkly xl) is about the limit on a 2500 series spinning reel. The other advantage is the cranking power of a bait caster. They are built like a winch and can pull a much larger fish out of heavy cover

Most people find them better for casting precisely, and for controlling your drift. In the great lakes apparently spinning reels are prone to lock up in freezing weather. Now granted it is largely down to personal preference, but I have an easier time controlling drifts with a casting reel than a spinning reel even though I can do it with both. I still am not comfortable enough on the baitcaster to fish it in more crowded holes, and I still can’t cast as far
