Bad cold or something viral

Caught a bad bug and have been to the ER (early Tuesday morning) and Urgent Care last night. Nothing prescribed, just common sense care.. lot's of rest, fluids, etc. I'll be laying very low this weekend and see my PCP next Friday, if not sooner.

The cough has been so bad that it occasionally causes my bad back to spasm! A deep cough and sinuses have released like the hounds.

I was tested and negative for Influenza A and B, RSV, Covid and Pneumonia (with a chest x-ray). I know the Flu vaccine choices where not effective this past year, so it's likely a strain of the flu.

Get yourself some Zicam (super-powered zinc). It's most effective when used at the onset of symptoms, but it'll help you. A hot toddy or two couldn't hurt either. Rest up & get better.
 
I had a fever and bad chills a couple weeks ago. Wife called my PA and he prescribed Tamiflu and Prednisone (steroid), 5 days each, knocked it out in a couple.
 
There has been some nasty stuff going around this year. I had something last fall that caused me to cough for about a month. I second the zinc recommendation. Get some rest and lots of fluids.

Well not today, and not for a while.. I'll be inside and resting up and staying hydrated.

And I just ordered some Zicam.. will be here later today! Might have to get a corndog delivery! Anyone coming over the pass? haha

Yeah, there was a bad cold going around this year. I had it in December and haven't had a cold that bad in at least 10 years, it hung on for a while and finished up with that chest congestion. Did the home test for Covid and it was negative. And there was no fever or anything, I think it was just a tough cold virus.

This is by far the worst one I've had in a very long time. The cough is brutal and my sinuses are draining like crazy! Buy stock in Klennex! My two visits are not the normal way I deal with stuff like this.. usually some cold medicine and then tough it out. I'll be resting up through the weekend and as long as it takes. Thanks to all for the suggestions and kind words..
 
With the Zicam, don't take it on an empty stomach. It'll make you nauseous.
 
Benadryl to dry up the nose, lots of vitamin C and zinc, chicken noodle soup, toddies, and plenty of bed rest. Helps to bundle up and sweat it out in blankets… Hot showers and Halls Cherry cough drops help break up the lung mucus too. Just some of my “home” remedies. For me it came on fast and lingered for more than I liked just a few months ago.

About the same for me. I was able to get some sleep last night though.. hang in there!
 
Instead of going for the whole ride and after seeing it affect others I went in and got the 5 day fix a couple days in.
BOOM....Gone.
 
Hope you guys feel better! I had a weird cold/cough thing about 2 months back that then became a head cold for like 2 weeks. It wasn't what you guys have, but it was the weirdest cold/virus I've ever had. Stay up on your liquids!

Haven't caught anything yet but there's been two dozen or so people from my work who have been out with similar things past two few weeks. Definitely something nasty going around.
 
Apparently misery loves company. I'm ailing too. Thinking it's just a nasty head cold. The older I get the longer these things last. The old "feed a cold, starve a fever " theory seems to be working too so I'm avoiding the bathroom scales for awhile until this passes. Sigh.
 
Hang in there Bill! Just got over a weeklong bug that sounds like that, bad sinus and chest congestion + gnarly cough. Felt so bad I almost went to urgent care, which was actually the day it started getting better. Not the body and joint aches usually associated with the flu, but my lungs were on fire. Tested negative for Covid and worse than a normal cold, I'm guessing it was some strain of RSV.
