Anchor system

Interested to know how everyone does their anchor for small boats, john boats etc. Keeping the anchor lines from being a mess.

For light boats I’ve been using this system. Works pretty well

I also made a system in a light Jon boat that I outfitted with the above release, a few pulleys along side of boat and then a pivot with a pulley at the nose of the boat. Works pretty well but a little tough on a heavier anchor (greater than 25lb)

I use the same holder on my canoe except that attached the cleat to a 3ft piece of ash so that the anchor clears the front of the canoe and does not bang against the bow

I keep a tote in the bow and stern of my boat to lay the anchor line in, that keeps the anchor line out of the way. I use two hands to retrieve the anchors and just lay the line in its tote. It isn't pretty but it is functional. Not all anchor lines are the same; my lesson learned. (I use Scotty anchor pulleys).

Running the LeeLock system on the raft. Coil up the rope in a bucket or tuck it coiled up between the side tube and the bottom. It's a stiffer line, which imo makes it harder for it to accidentaly knot up. Carry a quick release sheathed knife on my pfd to cut the line if somehow anchor got loose in moving water and had a knot in it. I don't like totes for moving water because if something happened (anchor accidentally deploys in moving water) I could see a scenario where the tote gets dragged up with the rope and gets jammed in the LeeLock, which would a mess.

On lakes, I bring a second mushroom anchor with line coiled in a tote that sits up under the front seat as the secondary anchor to keep the spinning down. Just Toss that one out and tie off to bow D ring.
