Advice for next travel trip

I've learned from my trip first couple of 'travel' trips (one to ID/MT and the other to Hol Box), that I can feel satisfied with a minimum of four days of fishing and feel like I 'got away'.
Sooooo....time is usually my biggest constraint. I'm figuring one day of travel each way with four days (at least) of fishing. I can be very happy in a tent but also happy with a lodge experience as long as I get what I pay for, but the fishing and the environment is the most important to me. Christmas Island is still a bucket list thing but the travel is too unpredictable for me to consider. If I take time off from work and family....I want to be pretty certain the trip is a go. I was impressed with Mexico.
Thanks for ideas. Right now thinking of MT, ID, Ascension Bay and even a pack mule trip.
Thanks for any input.

Have you looked at what Alaska has to offer or are you looking more for something in the lower 48..?

edit: If Canada is open to you, there's great fishing in British Columbia, the Dean River for example..

Anything is open as so many of the fisheries are still new to me. I sort of have a soft spot for a warm destination although I really love MT and ID. I've fished for salmon out of Seward a lot and had a chance to fish the Kenai during Aug once. I was a little disappointed as we were simply flipping egg patterns and flesh flies with indicators off the side of the boat. The river is beautiful, but I enjoy wading and swinging or stripping streamers more. We did have a lot of fun doing some dry fly fishing at one of the lakes though.

The Bahamas sound fantastic. It seems significantly more expensive than Mexico. Is the experience that much better? My buddy would really like to go but it seems about $2000.00 more for the same amount of time and fishing vs. Mexico. I'm still a newbie to the tropics...so it all is both a challenge and exhilarating.

I'll start researching Canada. The BC lakes have always intrigued me...Brian Chan (?) videos.....
Please keep any ideas coming. All are appreciated.

Cost for the Bahamas all depends on how you do it. Search around. There’s some reasonable beach shacks on some of the less travelled islands. Fly non stop on Alaska to Ft Lauderdale, then go from there. Most islands have good guides. Fish with them a couple or three days then DIY a day or two if you have a sense for adventure.

There's a lot more to AK than the Kenai.

If the idea of fishing upstream dry flies for Pacific salmon is something that resonates with you, you should visit SE AK the first week of August. There's also a pile of public cabins (both USFS- and State-mananged) in SE AK that are either ON or in close proximity to some of the best salmonid fishing available in the Pacific rim region, and the opportunity window is April-October.

Just a thought.

You already know how to trout fish so some of the better floats would be fun, Green, Bighorn, Snake. If you want to flats fish then you want numbers. Bahamas or Christmas Island for bones would be fun. I know Belize is open to travel. If you want to fish for larger fish 40-50lb range I would suggest Baja for roosters and the variety of species there. If you search around you can find some reasonable priced package trips. If you go on a hosted trip then there will be someone to help you out regarding flies, species specific tips etc. Good lusk, have fun and post a report when you get back.

Yes port Aransas guides name was Kenjo he was a very cool guy check his web page he fishing year round I went in March caught many fish it was my first time in warm water had a blast would definitely go again best of luck

If you haven’t fished for pike, I highly recommend doing it. I’ve gone to Manitoba in June, when they are in shallow water. Sight fishing for big aggressive fish is not something you will forget.
I have a June trip this year that’s been canceled the last 2 - fingers crossed.

Is this similar to fishing for our local tigermuskie?

Is this Port Aransas (Corpus Christi)? Looks promising. Easy flights and the flats look gorgeous. What is the best time of year? Texas BBQ!
We did a few days last year in Lower Laguna Madre. Beautiful area and you have classic redfish water as well as crystal clear hard bottom sand flats similar to Mexico.20210611_125150.jpg

There is also some excellent roadside graying fishing in Alaska. Rent an RV in Anchorage and go explore.

Right now is a good time to keep an eye out for last minute cancellation rates too. If I hadn't already been booked and paid 2 1/2 years out for the Bolivia trip I took in October, I could have gone the following week for half the price.

I’ve had and Idaho trout trip on my mind lately but can’t figure out why. Just seems like it’d be a fishy state…

Need to do more research for an extended road trip from OR.
I got family in Idaho falls, i'll be there spring break next. Problem is most of our trips are in the winter due to our occupation. I'll give you a report. I tried getting to more remote parts of bitch creek besides bridge access but quickly found out I need super swampers to get down those mud bog 'roads.' The quest to catch a fish in bitch creek on a bitch creek nymph will have to wait.
