2025 Tuna and Exotics

We had a productive (29 fish) trip with a looong run out and a somewhat hastened departure in order to get back over the bar before the ebb kicked in too much. So, we had to f*ck ‘em up with the time we had, and which we did. Especially our first stop, where we boated something like 13 or 14. Yeah we f*cked ‘em up pretty good.IMG_5006.jpegIMG_5025.jpegIMG_5027.jpegIMG_5035.jpeg

I'm wondering if I am going to get out again or not. Season already seems to be on the brink, I have more than enough tuna already, and I'm kind of enjoying a break after fishing local salmon on the Columbia almost every day. But, if a sub 45mi run glassy day pops up, I may not need much convincing.

Can you share how the FJ (fly jumble) came about?

We were sitting around after the trip enjoying some libations, in some cases using enameled and other camp cups to imbibe from, and our resident PNW offshore fly fishing mad scientist (I won’t say whom but their name rhymes with Bilber Dye) produced a large ziplock bag full of “failed fly” discards. That’s what it looked like when I pulled them out to examine them. There were some totally fine flies and a couple sorta goofy ones but definitely a lot of good hooks.

Looks like an awesome day.

Looking increasingly unlikely. Not a friendly ocean in the 10 day forecast. About to get the tunerfish gear put away for hibernation and start getting the boat ready for its sleep as well.
