2021 Roosters

The T.O. Show

Steelhead
Here's a photo recap of my rooster season to load up some content on the new threads here. I spent a lot of time trying to explore new zones this year instead of hammering the same old spots, and it paid off pretty well. I took the whole week off work for the opener and spent 9 days in the back of the truck chasing birds around. I also got the chance to introduce a good buddy to hunting and put him on his first bird which was rewarding for both us. This is all from various spots throughout eastern WA.

Very nice. Tough year with respect to the last 5 in terms of numbers, but we scratched out enough to make it interesting. Spent a week in NoDak and that place my have ruined me by changing perspective but I'll always be out there in the fall in EWA.

Your dog. Mine looks almost identical. The dad's name was Tater, a fox red lab I think out of Walla Walla. Happen to be in the same line?

Nice looking Lab. I grew up with a lab, he failed at hunting, but didnt stop him from being a good dog, he was a great retriever, as long as feathers were not attached. Had the same square shape head.

Don't think so, she came from a breeder on the west side. She's a champ though and really came into her own this year. She's always had a great nose and had no problem finding and flushing birds, but struggled a bit with tracking after the shot. But she had a few retrieves this year on crippled running birds that I'm not sure we would have gotten back in the past. I think this season was better for me than the last few, but I also put in way more miles and time into scouting than I normally do.

The tail on the last bird is cool...it's been many years since I shot an old bird, they are pretty smart.

Yeah that was a special bird. I might have saved that one to get mounted, but it was right in the middle of a road trip and I didn't think I'd be able to preserve it long enough. Oh well

Public land wild bird hunter here. Next year will be my last in Washington. Getting too old for 10 mile death marches, especially with shells in my pocket dating from the Bush Administration. Worst year in a series of bad years, especially with a good, young, willing dog. I’ll pay a North Dakota guide before I drop another dime on a pheasant preserve industry bent on extinguishing wild bird hunting.

Dang it. Thought this would be about Rooster fish not ringnecks.
