Was perusing the Fly Shop catalogue that showed up in the mail this week and found some inspiration in the flies section. I hate following recipes but don’t mind tying flies based on pics I’ve seen. “Toby’s Teaser” caught my eye in the “Bass, Bluegill, Pike, Carp, Crappie and Shad fly section. Not exactly the outcome I wanted but I’m sure it will catch a fish or two and now I have a new style of fly to tinker with.

Cool! So if you don’t mind me asking.....where and when are you going to use these? Baby tarpon are on my bucket list!
We have family vacay in Cancun early August. I booked a day with cancunflyfishing.net, guide will pick up/drop off right at hotel, very safe.
Rate is very reasonable too, around 450 for the day. I fished with them once before in 2016.

Hardy's Gold Butcher

Winged Wet Fly

Hook - Mustad Heritage S80AP
Thread - Black
Tail - Goose shoulder or quill dyed red
Ribbing - Gold wire
Body - Gold tinsel
Hackle - Dyed hot orange hen
Wing - Natural mallard quill

The butcher range of flies have been around for years, and account for many fish throughout the season. Great for browns, rainbows and works well for sea trout and even salmon in low water conditions. The Hardy's Gold Butcher is the only one in the series that abandons the mallard blue wings.
