Tied in a big game shank (probably close to 3"), I attached 2 split rings off the back. Currently have a 4/0 Owner Herring hook attached. On the shank, I have foam on the top and about 1/3 of the way down, there are small dumbbell eyes underneath to both counter balance and provide instability. Lots of bucktail, some nayat, saddle hackles, a touch of flash and a bit of titan dub for the head.....oh, and a couple shades of brown copic marker. About 7-8" on this one.

Do you have a preference of no eyes? Or just depends? Really like the colors on this one.

Made a change to Charlie Craven’s SBS of Danny Lane’s design, incorporating the mono core I use for Carnage style flies as opposed to the old building it on a needle technique; provides a much more stable body.

hook - WFC Model 28 #10
thread - Uni 6/0 camel
core - 8lb mono
tail/abdomen - elk
thorax - hare’s ear/Antron natural
wing/head - deer hair
legs - Perfect Rubber dun

Thanks! 90% of my best musky flies don't have eyes. But then again I fish no eyes about 90% of the time. With this particular pattern, I'm not adding eyes as currently constructed. If I decide to do a silicone coating around the head (ala Joe Goodspeed), I'll add eyes since they wouldn't affect the head shape and action in that situation. The only reason I'd add the silicone is if I want more of a gliding action out of it. Once I swim this one, I'll make that decision. Although, I will probably add some sort of gill markings to this.

Nature's Spirit has these wild barred turkey biot quills. They are a great material, and they aren't stripped, so you get the whole feather. I like to use it all.

This one has a biot body, and then the main side of the feather I used for the wing case.

This one I used the main side of the feather to wrap like pheasant tail.

And then biots work on dry flies too.

Super versatile, buggy, inexpensive material!

A few changes to the original; again, incorporated the mono core I use for Carnage style flies as opposed to the old building it on a needle technique for a much more stable body. Although the hen shoulder isn’t really visible, it keeps the pheasant rump from compressing around the body when the bullethead is tied down.

hook - Dai Riki 135 #6
thread - Uni 6/0 camel
core - 8lb mono
tail/abdomen - elk
thorax - hare’s ear/Antron natural
1st shoulder - hen golden badger
2nd shoulder - pheasant rump
head/collar - deer hair
legs - Perfect Rubber dun
indicator - 2mm foam orange

Saw a Rogue-bodied version somewhere (can’t find it now) on the interweb; since I’ve traded in a needle for the mono core, I decided to give this one a shot. The shoulder was an impulse; probably unnecessary although it didn’t really add any complexity.

hook - Sierra 2312bl #12
thread - Uni 6/0 camel
core - 8lb mono
abdomen - 1mm foam tan
shoulder - pheasant rump
wing/head - deer hair

Does anyone know why some tarpon flies have an extended kinda long head:
View attachment 50210
like this

Before Flourocarbon, and when anglers used to use a wire "tippet" section, many anglers would snell the flies to their wire tippet. Some still do this with mono, but it is becoming more rare.

Additionally, the older flies used saddle feathers, which foul easier when tied up at the front of the shank. So tying materials in at the back only is also to help prevent fouling.
