Yesterday morning it started raining on three or four inches of new snow, today we have nine or ten inches of accumulated "slush" so I thought I'd tie a slush jelly streamer (naturally it's in "pellet" color for our wild pellet head trout).IMG_1890.jpg

Sort of a more quiet and subtle popper type. First try for this fly and it is sort of raw and has some poor stacking, but I like it. Found this in "The Fly Tier's Almanac"

Hook: B10S
Tail: three rooster hackles on each side- 2 yellow and one olive
Collar: Hackle- yellow and olive
Body: Olive and black deer over yellow deer. Trimmed wide and fairly flat.
Whiskers: Olive hen hackle two on each side tied in at the back by the tips and pulled forward after the rest of the fly is complete

From the book - I discovered the two preceding patterns in Washington State where they were being used as bass flies. It was some years later before I learned they were originally intended for steelhead.

I sure like that design. The combination of the ample deer hair wing, bottom-trimmed hackle, and a decent bunch of moose hair at the rear tells me this fly will sit very well on the surface.

Great work. Hair wing is such a good pattern. How does the resin body float? Never tried one for a dry. Also what resin do you use
