What are your go tos?

I fish daybreak year around in western Washington. Especially coho and SRC fishing in the salt. Most of the year, I can have a civilized bite (in my kitchen) before heading out with a mug of hot coffee to fish. Come coho season, especially July and August, making a ruckus in the kitchen at 3:30 am after my alarm already woke up the whole house, is a sure way to end up on the better half’s bad side. For years, my primary solution was a cliff bar or Starbucks if open. These days, I’m on a breakfast burrito kick. Ground turkey from taco Tuesday, eggs, pico, hot sauce and a couple jalapeño slices. Pair with a big mug of black coffee in a travel mug and it’s the perfect wake me up on the way to the fishing grounds. With minimal kitchen ruckus required.

Long weekend coming up. I’ve got my Friday to Monday breakfasts ready to go.

What breakfasts do you all take on the road when heading out to fish for the day?

I generally eat at home before fishing. Always two cups of coffee.
Similar to yours, I do a fried egg, cheddar cheese, turkey sausage and corn salsa on a low carb tortilla is my go to…plus a banana.

Man you guys are healthy, I need to get on the tortilla game, that looks really good and convenient way to eat in the car.
I make my coffee, 4 pieces of toast or 2 PB sandwiches, bit of chips and maybe m&m the night before. Sandwiches are consumed on the drive to the fishing ground. Coffee, chips and sweets are then enjoyed on the way home.

I dunno, after seeing this, I might start placing orders with you every morning prior to heading out!

breakfast always the same - a bowl of mixed oat granola and Kashi Go, sprinkle of mixed nuts and dried fruit, tablespoon of flax seed, dollop of yogurt, fresh blueberries and a sliced banana, sluiced with coconut milk. Glass of mixed prune and cranberry juice with creatine, a cup of French Roast, another for the road.
Snack/Lunch - Cashew butter w/honey on 7 grain bread, two Aussie Bites, and a protein shake.

Red Foxx....

He was definitely thinking about you.

🤣

I also would order those burritos. 😁

If I need to get out the door early, especially if I have to hookup the boat, it's a small bowl of Costco Cascadian Farm Blueberry Almond Crunch. It's the low sugar (uses dates to sweeten it) low carb cereal that I've settled on since I'm a cereal guy, but wanted to cut my sugar & carbs. And no erythritol. Google it. I stopped eating it.

And I'll have a reusable K-cup (w/ paper filter added) pre-loaded with Peets Brazil ready to go into the old Keurig Slim. Hit 8oz and then add a squirt of honey, a touch of Molina vanilla and then 2 or 3 spoons of half & half. Pour that into just enough ice (12 of my Amazon round ice balls) in an aluminum cup to make it cold by the time all the ice is melted. I guess you'd call it a cold vanilla breve? Or a melted ice vanilla breve? 😁

I usually just take the coffee and my 32oz Nalgene of water out and put them in the truck, get all hooked up and then drink the coffee on the drive. Costco shelled pistachios are always in the boat/raft. This routine can get me well past lunch, especially if I also pack an apple and a couple beers. 🍺 Good fishing always helps too!

Back in the day used to be you could just roll up to any LES SCHWAB location. Any of the various INTERMOUNTAIN-WEST LES SCHWAB locations.

Saturday morning aways guys in there talkin tires. Coffees on strong!!! Bathroom available. Always guys standing around talkin tires at these LES SCHWAB LOCATIONS with available bathrooms --- PLUNGERS IN EVERY STALL.

A turkey, chicken, or sometimes ham 2-eggamuffin with cheese, along with yogurt and fruit. I don't need or do well with caffeine and totally dislike coffee but now that we're in the shoulder season I will make up a large thermos cup of hot decaf tea. I brew up a homemade chai like a very full bodied Oregon Chai. It helps warm me up on cold beaches.

For some stupid reason my go-to breakfast while fishing has been pop-tarts. Specifically either smores or brown sugar flavored. They are sold at pretty much every has station mini mart so I guess that’s how I fell into the habit. I never eat those things on any other occasion, only on fishing trips. I love good food but when I’m fishing, mushroom hunting, etc, it’s strictly business time and I can generally starve myself all day. When I do eat, I have to force myself to take a break and do it.

Back when I still fished, a bowl of oatmeal with a splash of cream, a little brown sugar and honey worked for me.

Count me in with the breakfast burrito crowd. They usually consist of whatever burrito-suitable ingredients are in the fridge mixed with egg, topped with El Torito Market salsa and wrapped in a 8" Guerrero Requisima flour tortilla. Everything tastes better in a tortilla!

Black coffee and out the door. My local morning trips, I just don't take food. I'm usually back home by early afternoon and I have lunch.

I love me some breakfast, but becoming more of a special occasion thing.

Breakfast is worth planning for. I was up yesterday at 3am to fish the fall Chinook opener in the mid-Columbia. Had some leftover taco makings to work with, so two burritos with fresh eggs scrambled, leftover grilled veggies, and fresh tomato. Big mug of coffee. Chopped melon and PB&J for lunch on the river.

Eggs and toast are my early morning go-to’s. I bring fruit, good briny olives, and salami and crackers for lunches usually. Trail mix fills the gaps.
