That number makes sense. Own 5 through 12 weight reels with a back-up for each = 16. Then add a 2 hander reel = 17 total

I made the mistake of inventorying my reels a couple of months ago. Had more than I will admit, sold off a few. Found a half dozen more when sorting out my back packing gear. How many does a person need? I have no idea, but willing to test the limits.

I just consulted the Excel file I use to keep track of all my gear. I counted 35 flyreels total. (I didn’t count all the extra spools.)

I had to do an inventory of assets when my wife and I were setting up our living trust, and one of the the asset columns included outdoor and recreational gear...
17 is a good start, but like my Pa once said, you can never have too many fly poles, fly reels, or shotguns.

What I keep finding out is that I had forgotten what reels ,and spools ,lines etc I do have . Rods not so much . Going thru my stuff , wow forgotten I had that reel , I should use it . Just got off fishing the Missouri with a friend , talking about rods ,and reels , came to the conclusion we didn't need anymore equipment . Ya ,right until something comes along we want .

My mental inventory of reels is at 20 odd but that means 30 odd if I looked everything over…
