Every time Herbert dropped back to pass, he should have sent a note to his family saying goodbye...just no answer for the pressure.
You'd think they'd at least roll him out, but I guess that's not in the War and Peace sized wpristband he wears.

The Chargers lack of adjustment was odd. The Pats blitzed a lot. There were no screen plays, they did not go jumbo or attempt any gadgets. They just kept dropping back.
Glad my beloved patsies won. Ugly game but the pats played well enough.
 
Yeah they just kept running what didn't work, for the most part they never wavered on a commitment to failure.
Sort of al Hairballl family trait, stubborn...

Colinsworth was diss'ing Herbert pretty bad, saying things like "he's got enough time, it isn't the o-line's fault, etc". I don't completely disagree. He also seemed to be sailing a lot of balls; the game looked like it might have been too big for him. Hard to say, no QB thrives under pass rush duress.
May, on the other hand looks like he'll have a long and storied career. He has great pocket presence and keeps his feet ready to throw when he scrambles.

I'm hoping the Bills make the SB this year. The good news for them is that the Chiefs are out. The not so good news is that Houston and New England are balling this year.
 
The Chargers have a bandage O'line. They lost both their best lineman this season in Alt and Slater. They have lined up
29 different O'line combinations. I believe they were ranked one of the worst 4 offensive lines in performances at the end of the season.
It didn't start out that way in September/October but they are a half shadow of that team.
 
only thing I saw in the Chargers game was shit play-calling throughout. Herbert had some time earlier in the game, none late. It didn't look to me much like his receivers had any separation (could also have to do with play concepts, I dunno)....regardless, it's gotta suck to have your third string O-line in front of you. eventually, it's gonna break down in spectacular fashion.

Gotta respect it. It's a likeable team this year. As someone who just likes good football, they've been fun to watch fight through.

Glad they are the opponent for my team next week, but crazy to see what they did this year.

Why not? The match-up is very favorable to the Seahawks. Just like how the Panthers seem to match up really well vs the Rams despite being supposedly a way "lesser" team. While anything can happen, the 49ers just don't have many answers for going against the Seahawks.
 
My beloved Patsies only pressured Herbert on like 18% of his dropbacks when they did not blitz. The Pats lack of pass rushing from the edge could be their downfall. offensively, their left side of their O-line is manned by 2 rookies who also struggled last night at times. Although they won, there is plenty to worry about in Foxboro.

On the positive side. Drake "Drake Maye" Maye has his first playoff game under his belt. I am hopeful that he will protect the ball better from here on out. The early turnover was somewhat predictable. Maye's most impressive strength is that he has continued to improve and correct mistakes. The 2 fumbles represent a bit of a backslide in that department but suspect he will improve his ball security.

I thought McDaniels had a Josh McD standard excellent game calling the offense. With a 6-3 score at half, I knew that he would have the advantage in the 2nd half. No OC makes halftime adjustments like he does and no NFL offense is as able to adjust as his. If not for Maye's fumble and an uncharectoristically poor 20+ yard throw to Hooper that should have been a TD those adjustments would have resulted in quite a few more points.

The AFC seems much more wide open than the NFC. It's becoming more and more likely that the superbowl will be started by a couple of QB's who have never been there. It's hard to see how the Steelers can win that many games so that leaves only Stafford on the NFC side. Can the Lambs win on the road possibly twice to get there? McVay is the best coach left in the tourney with probably the best QB in his conference. i gotta believe he will be able to confuse Williams.

Fun weekend of football.
 
Shanahan is Coach of the Year without a close second. What he has accomplished with a team comprised of as many second and third tier players as starters has been remarkable. The guts to call that receiver pass to MCC when the game was on the line and teetering was the call of the year.
