Rivers did better than I was expecting after being off for 5 years. Made a good percentage of his throws, threw a TD, and in general kept the Colts in it. He only looked really old on the slip and ramble.

As "good" as Rivers comeback was, it doesn't hold a candle to what Lindsey Vonn accomplished this weekend.

To be fair, Rivers was a spur of the moment situation and Vonn's was a planned comeback, but the results are amazing.

At 41, after 5 years off and a titanium knee upgrade, she had a weekend any World Cup racer would be proud of. She won a downhill on Friday, took second on Saturday, and just missed the podium at 4th on Sunday in the Super G. All against women mostly in their 20's.

Rivers definitely has granddad bod. Vonn says she is in the best shape of her life.

Where Rivers looked slow and a little awkward, Vonn was fluid, smooth, and stable. All while moving at freeway speed. Like Rivers she did have one bobble, but recovered a lot more athleticly.

Hope she stays healthy and is 100% in the Olympics.

Professional athletes, like these two, and most others, are just “freaks” … In this context, I mean “freaks” in a very positive way … mentally and physically in a different world than the rest of us average humans …

I at one time made a living on skis and did a lot of ski racing. Just running a downhill like that is a monumental task and to attempt it after 5 years off on a reconstructed titanium knee, let alone finishing on top, is hard for me to imagine. She is indeed one tough and driven lady.

i want to root for vonn, but she has been a bit of a nut case. cant remember off-hand, who she married? , but at the time, i knew there was trouble brewing.

She dated Tiger Woods. Power couple of crazy?

Being a little crazy is kind of a prerequisite to compete as a downhiller. Anyone remember Bill Johnson?
and before him, the Crazy Canucks...

Anyone who has seen a big mountain downhill in person knows just how insane it is for the young and fit.
What LV is doing at her age with a new knee is absolutely next level stuff of legends...Tom Brady couldn't carry LV's jock!
Bionic Woman. Who needs steroids when you've got titanium.

Pre 1976, Mt.Hood Meadows June or July summer after massive winter snowpack. The US ski team was practicing and my buddy and I saw they had a downhill course they were running. We were up maybe 1/4 way from the start and saw Andy Mill go by and I decided to chase; got down to bottom and crossing under chair I raised arms in victory and promptly crossed tips and did more than a couple forward rolls right there. Totally humiliating. Did get a Well Done from Andy.

In other St Moritz news... the pilot of a US 4 man bobsled team had an epic solo run after his pushers, and the brake man fell off..

Somewhat heart breaking to read of Lindsey Vonn's injury in a downhill today. After her crash the race was cancelled due to unsafe conditions. It's a real shame that decision was not made before someone was injured. Although this puts her Olympic dreams at risk if she has proven anything this year it is that she is one tough and driven lady and should not immediately be counted out. Here is hoping she defies the odds once again.
