They are literally building Skynet. I've seen this movie before. Man creates something. He then realizes he can get chicks with the success it brings. Man makes money. Man gets more chicks. Man destroys element of culture. Man didn't care. Man destroys more with his creation. Man gets robot girlfriend as he is soulless. World of Man destroyed. Man laments loss of robot girlfriend and goes looking in the desert for Cherry 5000. Man rediscovers soul in post apocalypse type wasteland. Man creates again. Cycle starts over. What do you think got the dinosaurs?

In all seriousness though this is the technology that will finally make man unfit in the evolutionary sense of the word. Never before have humans been so far away from providing for their survival. Obesity is a function of that. All this automated AI will make it worse. I'm glad I'm not going to be around to see the end state of people. They already disgust me as a population in many cases. This technology is being developed by the worst in people. It's designed to reward the worst impulses. It will get a far worse result than anybody is hoping for. I for one herald the age of human blobs and idiots. They already can't figure out basic biology and nutrition. This will be their final form. They deserve it.

In the short run I see the glass half full. But in the long run you might be right the glass is going to be empty! I also will only be around for some good parts.

Might also kill about 1/3 of the population. That stuff is nasty
Perfect designer drug for the designer. Get on it. Stay on it or you blow up like a Navy raft.

People are so gross. So out of touch with providing for their own survival that they will hand over the keys to their health to a corporation that views them as a dumb non sentient cash cow. And they are right. A cow so unfit for survival on it's own that it's best fit for milking them slaughter.

What's scarier than AI and robots is actual people becoming robots. Many individuals have so low intelligence and basic understanding of the world they can be programmed like robots. Better living through chemistry I guess. God forbid you take an actual active role in your own well being.

Representations of "AI" in media are older than anyone here:

I've been around what we are now calling AI for a while, tangentially people I knew were doing stuff with early NL stuff in the early 2000s when I was in undergrad at Georgia Tech. As I've worked in tech fields over the past couple decades the ML side of things has started to become more and more prominent, I'd say the product people in my field first started asking it out and pretending like it would do things it couldn't around 2012-2015. "We can make AI search for that problem" were pretty common declarations (spoiler, none of those great ideas ever came to fruition). The common thing I've seen is that people think AI as we're seeing it today is Skynet, or HAL or MU-TH-UR, but its really nothing like that. Whats really getting used today with ChatGPT, Claude and the like are much more like really smart versions of Google in the earlier parts of this century (which is a weird thing to say but accurate). The impacts are, in my opinion, quite similar as well, but probably magnified. 20 years ago people complained that kids were able to do their homework by googling the answer, finding a relevant article or site and copying that.
I'd say it was pretty easy back in the day because there was a lot less on the internet. As it became harder to sort the wheat from the chaff you had to learn how to google. This is a thing I've had to try and explain to junior developers many times over the years. They would come to me with a problem and, eventually, I'd come back with an answer. I didn't know the answer off the top of my head, I knew how to take their problem, turn it into a google search, know which results were relevant, turn those into more google searches and so on until I solved the problem. Which is really similar to what a lot of "AI" is doing today.
I use AI pretty much every day anymore. Its actively promoted at the company I work for. What it lets me do a lot of the time is take my initial question, which is in natural language, and turn it into an answer by automating the recursive searching and processing that I used to do manually. The work now is in knowing how to ask the agent a question that gives the result you want (there is a lot of things to be learned there) and then reading what the AI spits out and learning how to properly interpret the results. Just like 20 years ago if you google something and use the wikipedia article word for word, or just copy paste the Stack Overflow result into your code blindly you're going to have a bad time.
The fact still is the more fit AI becomes the less fit humans become. We got a bunch of tech to make it so firewood doesn't need to get split. Hell wood burning stoves are practically illegal. So what do people do with that easy living tech. Nothing. They sit on their fat asses and treat their body to non use. They are a drag on society in so many ways. Yeah unpopular but I said it and I'll stand by it. They eat shit, do nothing, take the magic pills their fat rancher doctor gives them to shut their complaining asses up about their knees and consume resources other people provide.

Now extend that to where they don't have to even think. I get documents from folks obviously written by AI. I've seen Bladerunner like a hundred times so I can sniff out a replicant. Straight in the trash and on a list of do not interact. If you can't make at least a small effort you won't make any effort. People are already losing their ability to think. I don't think that's cool at all. Unfit to do anything is where we are headed. Maybe they can all work at the DMV. I don't see a shiny future. I see a tech reliant population so dependant on everything horrible that they essentially deserve their own engineered destruction they so greedily clamored for with they fat dumb fingers.

Nuke it from orbit. That's the only way to be sure.

yea, those good old days when we practiced nuke attack drills by cowering under our classroom...white bread peanut butter sandwiches that stuck to the roof of the mouth like a barnacle....Boy Scout leaders who thought they were George Patton...three TV stations in black and white ...bored housewives on the block who were usually tipsy towards afternoon...elderly teachers who missed the good old days of rapping knuckles with rulers...cities immersed in brown smog on inversion days...rivers used as dump buckets by industries and sewer plants...it was such a better time for building character. Nowadays folks just get everything handed to them on a platter...as if

Technology should help us not destroy us. It should connect is not alienate and divide us. Nobody including myself is lamenting the loss of what you describe above. Fact is we have passed the zenith of human evolution. It's a downhill slide from here to the imminent and closer approaching final form.

8 billion folks on a rapidly shrinking and increasingly polluted rock is the real problem...everything else is just perspective
