Hmmm, as a fisherperson I suspect there are more important things in your life than Costco. However, I am concerned that you think it......."But it sure is nice to have".

Costco is just "consumerism" in its worst form.

The population of the Wenatchee Valley trading area has quadrupled since the 1980's. The membership in the local fly club is now a THIRD of what it was in the 1980's.

That was my only point. The people moving here, are NOT moving here because they want to be here. They are fleeing someplace else and want to recreate what they had there...here.

Clearly, they did not fly fish back there, but they loved shopping at Costco.

When it was first opened I would go there and buy stuff because I didn't want to wait in line at Bi-Mart.

I did talk to the manager who told me they were on the verge of closing the store after the first year. For what it is worth, I did have another conversation a couple of years ago and Costco is looking for a new location in the Wenatchee Valley to open a bigger store now. Well, as you know there isn't much flat ground in Wenatchee. Every chain store that has moved into the Wenatchee Valley, has had their size constrained by a lack of land.

The subdivisions are driven by retirees moving into the valley. There has always been a very large population of remote workers, even before remote work was a thing in the media. That is what is pushing the subdivision development.

The apartments are driven by rezoning by the cities of East Wenatchee and Wenatchee looking to increase their tax base. They are expensive due to the lack of housing in the valley. There is a new fancy seven story apartment complex going in downtown Wenatchee.

The traffic increase is almost all due to apartment growth. The valley is starting to look like Federal Way.
 
Actually, I like where I live-New Hampshire. An hour from the ocean, and hour from the mountains, and an hour from Boston (traffic dependent). In addition, the state has no sales, or income tax. Trout & Salmon fishing is not as good as I would like, but I have many spots in Maine, Vermont, and Northern & Western NY that are worth the relatively short trip.

Anacortes has no venomous snakes. For me that is a big plus regarding a place to live. I've stepped (barefoot) on Copperheads, swam with Cottonmouths and have seen a rattler strike at my leg. No venomous snakes, especially with kids, is something to consider.
 
And then we have insects. The Ozark's have "Chiggers". These tiny things will bite you in the worst possible body parts..... San Diego had absolutely no pesky insects. No Mosquitos, Cockroaches, black flies etc.. Nothing! I liked that. Here in Anacortes it is about the same...... Mosquitos in Eastern Wa have given me "grief" but I have ways of protecting myself. So..... Yeah, bugs and snakes...they are worthy of consideration when looking for your new location.
 
If I was to move, it would have to be somewhere near saltwater. That would be the dealbreaker for me.
