I'm sure that would work, but I tried to avoid spreading pesticides into the greater environment. Sevin Dust was my last good option to kill this lawn nest, and I will dispose of the dusted soil into my trash in a couple days. I only want this nest dead, not all the colonies in the surrounding forest.

Unless they're an immediate nuisance, you can usually just leave them be. They're not aggressive like yellow jackets.
 
Free advice: Don't let your yellowjacket nests survive into August! They will become super hives with thousands. Nuke the ones close to your house ASAP.
 
I’ve been trying the fipronil for a few seasons now. Yesterday I discovered a yellow jacket nest inside the overhang of our house. I mixed up some tuna just the can version and 8 or so drops and set it close to the spot. The nest seems dead today. I don’t think it’s supposed to work that fast but my eyes are telling me it did. I just need to silicone that spot now.

I'm surprised they went for the bait if they're paper wasps. That method is typically one to use for avoiding them and other insects.

My nest in siding appears dead this morning. I am glad they were paper wasps. We usually have problems Aug/September, had one of the grandkids who is allergic get stung by a German last year, so I don't hesitate to terminate hornets.

yeah, that could be a YJ. If they're living in a hole in the wall vs hanging a paper nest, then it's very possible. Just don't see them living in places that aren't the ground often, so side of house is paper wasp most of the time.
 
Paper wasps will find a crack or crevice as well as open space overhangs. I currently have a nest in the crease of my Subaru Legacy Wagon lift back that I don’t use. I think I’ll wait till winter to open that lid. Hopefully, they have done too much damage to seals and wiring. Not looking forward to this.
 
do you yellow jacket killers have any recommendations for the tiny ants that seem to find there way into the house ? i used Terro early in the spring, and that did the trick a couple of times. but these seem to be smaller, and not as interested in the terro. thx.

Good photo! Those horntails (AKA wood wasps) sure grab some attention! They’re big and make a loud buzz flying around.
I once saw one inside a small shop in B.C. The place emptied out right quick.
They can’t sting. The thing that looks like a stinger is an ovipositor; a tube used to lay eggs inside wood.

I think Grant County is one giant anthill - the little black ones that are sometimes called sugar ants or pavement ants. I spray Bifen XTS outside in problem areas. They rebound quickly.
